Henry Omoregie EGHAREVBA PhD, FICCON, MCSN, MRSC
DR HENRY OMOREGIE EGHAREVBA, Head/Coordinator of Consultancy Services at the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD), has close to two decades’ knowledge and experience in pharmaceutical products R&D, operational health research, public health policy making and management, and traditional medicine research and policy formulation. Prior to his appointment as Coordinator of Consultancy Services, Dr Egharevba had served as Head of Department, Department of Medicinal Plant Research and Traditional Medicine (MPR&TM), NIPRD, and Secretary/Desk Officer, African Network for Drugs and Diagnostic Innovation (ANDI) West African Regional Hub.
As HOD MPR&TM, he implemented The National Ethnobotanical / Ethnomedicinal Survey Project using Nasarawa State as a case study in 2013. Report was submitted to the FMH and the Presidency and has led to the creation of a full fledge Department of Traditional Medicine in the FMH. As Sec/DO ANDI, he executed a pilot study of smartphone-based tracking technology for health commodity tracking in support of strengthening supply/distribution chain in Africa. This project which was presented at the African Healthcare Delivery (AHD) Conference 2018 has led to more focus on the use of mobile, big data streaming and cloud-based database technology for strengthening LMIS, field operation and drug use/misuse monitoring, as well as disease surveillance.
Dr Egharevba is an Associate Research Professor and majors in Phytochemistry Research where he has published about 100 manuscripts in reputable local and international peer-reviewed journals. He has isolated and characterized several natural compounds from plant sources. Dr. Egharevba was the Secretary of the Team that executed the Nigerian CD4 Lymphocyte baseline study in 2008, which is now used as baseline for Nigeria by FMH and WHO. He was part of the team that developed NIPRIMAL, NIPRIMMUNE, NIPRID OIL, NIPRIFAN and other NIPRD flagship products, most of which are in the process of commercialization.
Dr Egharevba current research focus are on communicable tropical diseases including tuberculosis (TB), HIV/AIDS and malaria, and non-communicable diseases including diabetes, sickle cell disease and cancer. He is also interested in material chemistry, medicinal plant research, traditional medicine development and integration, and health systems governance. He specializes in phytochemistry research and preclinical drug development, analytical and bioanalytical assay development, and Health systems research with focus on supply/distribution chain strengthening.
Dr Egharevba as a Visiting Lecturer has lectured Chemistry and Chemistry related courses as well as mentored undergraduate and post-graduate students at the University of Abuja, Nasarawa State University Keffi and the Nigerian-Turkish Nile University Abuja at various times. He has worked in the Private Sector in the 1990s as Senior Production Chemist with Churchgate subsidairy, CDC Agbara, and as a Sale/Product Representative with Ibachem (now Ibafon Oil) Ltd.
Dr Egharevba had his B.Sc degree at the University of Benin, M.Sc and PhD at the University of Abuja and an MBA at the Lagos State University, all in Nigeria. He also holds a PGDE degree from the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Kaduna.
Dr Henry Omoregie Egharevba is a seasoned Research Scientist and Administrator, and has headed/served on numerous management and technical Committees and Expert Working Groups at both national and international levels.
